Codenames is a social word game with a simple premise and challenging gameplay. Two rival spymasters know the secret identities of 25 agents. Their teammates know the agents only by their codenames. The teams compete to see who can make contact with all of their agents first. Spymasters give one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the table. Their teammates try to guess words of their color while avoiding those that belong to the opposing team. And everyone wants to avoid the assassin.
The game works very well with 4 players if you prefer to guess without help. Or you can add more players if you prefer lively discussion. There is also a cooperative variant where a single team tries to achieve the highest score they can by playing against the game itself.
*Codenames was also the winner of Board Game of the Year in 2016.
Go is has been renowned as being one of the most elegant brain-burning abstract games in history, with players trying to claim territory by walling off sections of the board and surrounding each other’s stones. The objective of the game is to control as much territory as possible on the board often times by walling off your opponent. The game can end either when the board becomes full or when both players agree to end it.

The Resistance is an intense game in which players must support their cause while possible fooling the others depending on if they are either Imperial Spies or Resistance Operatives. If a player is assigned to being an Imperial Spy they must keep their identity under wraps and sabotage the Resistance missions. While on the other hand, if a player is a Resistance Operative they must weed out these spies through their deductive skills and ensure the success of the Resistance.
This game is playable with 5-10 players making one of the best larger group games in our list of board games under $20.
4.) Battle Line
Battle Line is a capture the flag card game in which players win by taking 5 of the 9 flags or 3 adjacent flags. It plays like rummy or poker, is easy to learn, and has the strategy and the ability to provide surprises to your opponent.
This game is a rethemed version of Schotten Totten with flag bits in place of the boundary stones. The game plays the same except cards go from 1 to 10 and you hold 7 cards instead of 6.

Codenames: Picture is a variation from the game Codenames in which players must use the clues they are given, pictures this time, to find and get into contact with other secret agents, as the teams race to contact all their agents.
6.) One Night Ultimate Werewolf
One Night Ultimate Werewolf is a 10-minute game which you can play multiple times over back to back in which 3-10 players take the role of the following characters:
- Seer is granted the ability to view one other player’s card
- Troublemaker has the ability to switch the cards between two players
- Robber is able to steal the card from another player and become that card
- Werewolf gets to know all the players on their team of “Bad Guys”
- Minion knows who the werewolves are but is trying to misdirect everyone
- Tanner is not really on any team but wants everyone to think they are the werewolf because if they vote for him he wins
After taking the roles, player try to figure out who the werewolf is after one “night.” This game can also be played by using the app in accordance with the board game.

Lost Cities is a card game that consist of a single deck of cards ranked 2-10 in five different colors plus 3 special handshake cards in each suite. Furthermore, there is a board which functions only to organize the discarded cards in each suite.
This is considered a good couples game and the typical game only last fifteen minutes.
The object the game is to gain points by mounting profitable archaeological expeditions to the different sites represented by the 5 colors. Players keep playing the game until the draw pile runs out at which time the players discard what is left in their hands and tally up the scores. The player with the most points wins.
